[Jermaine Lannaman, Gleaner Writer] The Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Jackie Bell Knockout competition will this year again be sponsored by Yellow Pages.
The competition, which got under way last weekend, will see the national telephone directory company sponsoring the event to the tune of $4 million for a second straight year.
“It is with great pleasure that we accept Yellow Pages’ sponsorship of the competition for another year,” said KSAFA President Rudolph Speid at a press launch at Yellow Pages’ offices on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew yesterday.
“We believe we have one of the best KO competitions in the country, with six of the top Red Stripe Premier League teams and KSAFA Super League teams, who are very competitive.
“With this in mind, Yellow Pages stands to benefit from association and partnership with the competition, which is one of the most popular in the country,” Speid added.
The competition, which last year saw Premier League club Arnett Gardens coming out on top, will see 36 teams taking part.
Six will come from the Premier League, there will be 12 KSAFA Super League teams, 12 KSAFA Major League teams and six from the KSAFA Syd Bartlett competition.
“We at Yellow Pages believe in national development and see football as one such tool,” said Yellow Pages Marketing Manager Alleyne Graham.
“We are therefore pleased to once again sponsor the Jackie Bell, and look forward to another exciting year.”
The competition will continue on Monday with three sets of play-off qualification matches.
Molynes United will play Central Kingston at Molynes playing field, Maverley will host Cooreville Gardens, and Shortwood will travel to Heroes Circle to oppose New Kingston.
The final is set for February 13, 2013.
